Week 45, Roswell, GA- NEW AREA, Spanish Speaking

 pre- haircut

Dear Family,
This week was weird. Well. Yeah. Weird.
I'm just on the other side of the stake now so it doesn't really feel
like I'm in a new area. I kind of already know where things are and
the sister training leaders were here before, so I've been here on
exchanges. It doesn't feel like I'm in a new area, just on a loooooong
exchange.
My new companion is Sister Solis! I sent a selfie with her probably 7
weeks ago.... We had exchanges her first Saturday. This is her second
transfer. She's awesome. She is super fun and just a great missionary.
She already knows her stuff and is a super hard worker. It's a really
big blessing to be with her. She's 21 and from Seattle. Before her
mission she was a pre-school teacher. So, she's great.

I hope everyone had a great Easter! And the women's conference was
amazing. I loved it all so much. Service is the essence of the gospel!
Without it, it all means nothing. (1 Corinthians 13; 2 Nephi 26:30;
and just a bunch of scriptures everywhere...)
This week, as great as it was, was a little interesting because we
received some hard rejections...
We stopped to talk to two guys working on their car. They said that
their mother was even a member (and it sounds like she was pretty
active!) but they wanted nothing to do with us because all we did was
talk about Joseph Smith. And they went on about it.
And I just wanted to cry.
Because I'm here to bring others to Jesus Christ. Just wanted to share
an Easter Message. And let you know that Jesus Christ lives, and that
we can come unto Him because His gospel has been restored.
(But I couldn't cry. Because apparently I'm training. And I had to be
strong for my companion. But I'm pretty sure I was more hurt than
her...)
Then there was what looked like a big family gathering outside of a
house across the street from some investigators. They were nicely
dressed and had all of this food outside. We went up to talk with
them, but everyone was kind of doing their own thing. We talked with
one guy, who shared that they were just coming back from a funeral for
their dad, and there was a gas leak, so they were going to eat
outside. Then we went to talk with this young mother who very promptly
gave us what sounded like a rehearsed sermon of anti material saying
that our service was even offensive to the Lord. And finished saying
we should consider really studying the scriptures and going home.
I prayed to know that the Lord would have me do, and I thought about
what it really means to be a representative of Jesus Christ.
When she finished I just said to her, "thank you for sharing your
testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ. We know that He lives and it is
a privilege to serve Him. We just wanted to offer our condolences to
you and your family. What can we do for you?"
She was a bit taken back and quickly referred us to the home owner,
who was nice and offered us well deserved cupcakes.
I know that Jesus Christ lives. He is our Savior and redeemer. I loved
the women's conference because it just tied everything together.
Matthew 10:38-39 and Matthew 25. It is a priceless privilege to serve
the Lord by serving His children. Faith, Hope, Charity, and Love are
what qualify us for the work. (D&C 4:5) That's what it's all about.
That's what good Christian livin' is. 😊
I love and miss you!

Week 44, Norcross, GA- Spanish Speaking- New location next week

Madeleine's new address will be 344 Misty Lane, Roswell, GA 30076

Dear Family,
So I guess the really big news is that my family is moving back to San
Antonio, Texas. Well. I was shocked.
I'm so happy dad got the job with Google! Congratulations!
Definitely a little bit nervous because, well.. You know me. I like to
have an idea of how everything is going to play out and I had an idea
of how everything was going to play out (as far as going home) but now
I have no idea. You'll have to take a lot of pictures for me when
you're down there so I know what it's going to be like (or at least
have an idea). Don't worry, I'm still here in Georgia until December.
Over here, I'm moving too! Just up the street to the Cumorah branch.
Same stake. Same zone. It will be fun.
This week was kind of crazy and way fun. When visiting a less active,
she quickly opened her door for us and told us that she had read on the
Internet that when the missionaries knock on your door, you should let
them in because they leave their parents and food. So she let us in.
😉
She then went on about how beautiful my companion is and told me that
I will learn a lot from her. Like how to do my hair and makeup. (In my
defense it was at the end of the day and everything had kind of melted
off...) She then told me I should wear my hair in a bun and she did
the same!
Last night when visiting a new investigator we asked him why he
invited us in, he said he did because he recognized us as daughters of
God, so he has complete confidence in us. That was amazing. Our
calling is amazing. It is so wonderful to bring others to Jesus Christ
everyday! Sometimes people disappoint and sometimes it's hard, but the
Lord's way is always better than our way. I know it!

Week 43, Norcross, GA - Spanish Speaking

Dear Family,
This week was fun. We had zone meeting on Tuesday and afterwards I
went with Sister Gonzalez in Cumorah for the night. We just tracked
and talked with everyone- which is one of my favorite things to do. We
just meet so many people and it's neat to share with all of them about
our Savior, Jesus Christ. There was one lady, who only knew enough
English to tell us she didn't speak English, but creole. So we said we
were representatives of Jesus Christ and gave her a card anyway. She
was so excited. "Jesus!" We told her she could change the Language on
the website. "I go! I go!" Sister Greenman and I have had a lot of fun
since going out of our way to talk with everyone. We even pull over
when we just see someone walking. Some people have run away from us...
They just don't know what they're missing. Our message is THAT
IMPORTANT!
We were excited this week because Jesus's sister came to church. We
aren't sure why Jesus didn't come. We are going to try to figure that
one out tonight...
The weather has been nicer. More sunshine. The outside is friendlier.
I love spring, mainly because my favorite Holiday is coming : EASTER!
Aleluya! It is so wonderful to share the message of our Savior with
all of Heavenly Father's children. (Even if they run away from us) I
know that Jesus Christ lives and because He lives we will all live
again and we can return to our Heavenly Father. He is the source of
all peace and joy.

Week 42, Norcross, GA, Spanish Speaking

Congratulations to Brad and Lexie!

This week was pretty good. On Wednesday we had a sister's conference.
All the sisters in the mission met and President and Sister Bennion
spoke with us as well as some of the sister training leaders.
My favorite activity was the personality activity. First, there's two
groups. Formal and informal. Formal are people who can't live with
messes; informal are people who can. Then there's Dominant and easy
going.
I wound up in the group called the controllers. (RED) It was pretty
funny because I was there with Sister Hanks. We had already formed a
circle before they told each group to make a circle. lol Then we
talked about our strengths (we get things done! Were disciplined!
We're  independent!) and then our weakness' and the whole group went
silent. Ok y'all. One sister just kept on saying "pride" between every
comment. Lol  We started listing weaknesses like: bossy, high
expectations, self critical, stubborn, impatient. The funny thing to
me was that our strengths and weaknesses were pretty much the same,
just had 2 different ways of saying them. Then we talked about pet
peeves. Me and another Spanish sister, Sister Gonzalez, and sister
Hanks, started feeling like "hmmmm maybe we are more promoters and not
so much controllers.... All the groups then shared what we talked
about and the promoters were spontaneous and in that group were
sisters who were happy and laughed...lol in my brain I was just
thinking, " I don't think I'm as formal as I thought I was... My mom
always had to tell me to clean my room... And I think I've changed."
It's been funny though to joke about it like we joke about the color
personalities. And I think it's always good to understand more about
how people think so you can get along better. Unfortunately however
when they asked the supporters what they thought they could do to get
along better with the controllers, they said "we could do what they
say...." No! We have to be nicer than that! Lol
Another thing sister Bennion talked about was "straightening your
crown". When life gets tough, just "straighten your crown" (i.e. Fix
your hair and makeup, put on some lipgloss and smile, and move forward
in some really good shoes. At least, that's what it made me think
of...) just moving forward with the understanding that we are
daughters of God, and He trusts us!
It was really great because the next day at zone conference, the
sisters were much bolder and willing to speak up more. Sister Greenman
said that she felt like the elders responded as if they've been
waiting for us to speak up!
We've had fun working with less actives. The triplets dad is no longer
on date- he was traveling... But he still wants to be baptized! We are
also teaching this other woman and her four daughters, and her
brother, Jesus. The little girls love us so much! One, who's 5, always
gives us some sort of Mexican junk food before we leave lol. And she's
begged her mom to come to church "with the hermanas". Their family in
Mexico are all members, so we think good things are coming.
This morning all the sisters in the zone studied together, and we all
shared our testimonies of Jesus Christ. I am so grateful for a Savior.
I know He lives and that it's because of His restored gospel we can
have complete access to His Atonement in our lives. We don't have to
miss out on any part of His gospel because it is restored. I am so
grateful to be apart of this work.
I love and miss you!
Love,

Hermana Wallis
